About the New Day Box team

The New Day Box team is a group of ten friends and colleagues, who work together at a Melbourne CBD company called Envato.

In early November 2013, Cyan Ta’eed came across a small news story online about a Canadian not-for-profit called The Shoebox Project. It seemed like a simple and powerful concept, and the same day she sent two emails out querying whether something like this would be useful in Victoria. She shared the idea with five of her colleagues and friends, and we formed a group to make it happen.

The next day Safe Steps had agreed to distribute as many boxes as we could get. Four days later we had requests from domestic violence shelters, housing and crisis accommodation around Victoria. We heard from the amazing women running these services, and their commitment to the women in their care was truly inspiring.

This year we hope to collect our 15,000th New Day Box to distribute to women in crisis accommodation!
